My Bio
hello there.....I hope you enjoy looking through my pictures......and here's a bit of background.....
Apart from an interlude when I was helping to bring up my sons, drawing has always been at the centre of my life. As a child I was fascinated by the world around me, particularly the flowers and insects I found in the garden. All my early drawings are of flowers and insects - especially butterflies. I also had a very keen eye for detail, pattern, colour and symmetry.....As I grew older I developed a deep interest in myth, legend, religion and creation myths from around the world. These ideas found their way at one time or another into my artwork......I experimented with watercolours, inks, and crayons, until all these elements came together to produce my current style ( such as it is) and the subject matter of many of my drawings. I am self-taught....and of course still learning...!
In 2001 I began the study and practice of Buddhism and Buddhist meditation, which had a very strong effect on me......and resulted in the series of drawings I call ' Dharma Art'. These drawings were never contrived, thought up or designed.....they were produced when I was in a highly concentrated, absorbed, yet relaxed and open state of mind - a meditative state - and the images simply flowed onto the paper.....it was really like retrieving something that already existed in my mind and uploading the image onto paper.....when I sat down and took up my pencil, I usually had no idea what I would be drawing....
At the present time I am back to experimenting with pen and ink.....and there is more of a deliberate effort to produce a pleasing image.....I am taking a great deal of inspiration from trees, ferns, ancient woodland, stone, and pagan and celtic myth and art....and excited to see where this will lead me and my drawings.....
.......It's a week since I began a new drawing....and it's all going well. I've spent a reasonable amount of time working on it this week aided by unseasonal weather - lots of dull and rainy days, so it's been easy to remain at the drawing board. I have been reminded how strange the creative process is though.....do we ever really know what we are about to embark on when first we take up our pencil or paintbrush....? I always seem to get taken by surprise! I start off thinking I know what the drawing is going to be.....and then as soon as I start to get really engaged, something else takes over......and after a little while I realise that the

Well, after a week or two of faffing about......and not having a clear idea about my next drawing.....( I have been using the time to start a blog, and update D.Art, so it's not all been wasted).......this morning I started a new drawing! Yippee!! So far it's nothing more than a few lines on paper.....but that's BIG! It means I have my new idea up and running....it means I have made a decision on which paper to use......it means I know which medium I'm going to use.....it means the creative process is underway.....and that makes me VERY HAPPY.....because, ( and I've known this for a very long time) I'm really only truly happy when I'm drawing

Hi Gil,

I am re-watching you. You'll probably know who I am when I say that you commented on Chasing the bends of green Lush before. There's a story behind my flee from the other account, but I frankly don't care to explain it right now. It should be enough that I'm here, still watching you, still adoring your work... :rose:

thanks for the openness and the beautiful words above.
Hello there,
Great to hear about your experience of drawing mandala's, and that you resonated with what I've written....it doesn't surprise me, as I believe these sort of experiences are common to all who tap into their creative energies -to me that's the most important thing about being human...long may you continue with your music and art activities!
